Tenali

Tenali also known as Andhra Paris, is a town and a mandal in Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh, South India. It has a population of 149,839 (2001 census). It is located 16 miles east of Guntur City. Three canals of the Krishna River flow through Tenali making it a part of the rice bowl of Andhra Pradesh. One of the canals is navigable up to Nizampatnam port. Tenali is a major railway junction connecting Guntur, Vijayawada, Repalle and Chennai.

Nearest Airport to Tenali is Vijayawada. Travel Time from Vijayawada Aiprort to Tenali is 1 Hour by road and the distance is around 55 KM Kingfisher operates daily flights to Vijayawada from Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore. By Train

Tenali is on Kolkata-Chennai main line and is connected to major cities by train. This being a major junction, most of the trains including the super fast expresses have a stop in the station. Tenali station is in the south central railways and is having 5 platforms. All platforms can accommodate trains with 28 coaches. Please verify the timings with Indian Railways, since they change from time to time.

-- Janmabhoomi Express - departs daily from Secunderabad Station at 7:10 AM and arrives in Tenali at 12.20 PM.
-- Krishna Express (enroute Tirupati) - departs daily from Secunderabad Station at 6 AM, arrives in Tenali at 2 PM. Takes a much longer route (via Kazipet, Warangal).
-- Simhapuri Express(enroute Gudur) - departs daily from Secunderabad Station at 9:30 PM, arrives the following morning in Tenali at 4.30AM.
-- Delta Fast Passenger(enroute Repalle) - departs daily from Secunderabad Station at 8.45 PM, arrives the following morning in Tenali at 5.00 AM.
-- Chennai Express (enroute Chennai) - departs daily from Secunderabad Station at 5.20 PM, arrives the in Tenali at 11.10 PM.
-- Narayanadri Express (enroute Tirupati) - departs daily from Secunderabad Station at 6.05 PM, arrives the following morning in Tenali at 12:01 AM.

By Road

Tenali is connected to Chennai and Calcutta via Mangalagiri and Budampadu by National Highway 5 (dual-carriageway, 120km/h). Tenali is 25 Kms from Guntur & 35 Kms from Vijayawada by road and there are plenty of buses that run between the cities. The Andhra Pradesh State Road Travel Corporation (APSRTC) runs buses from Vijayawada, Guntur, Nagarjuna Sagar, Hyderabad, Miryalaguda, Srisailam, Bhadrachalam and Repalle to Tenali, along with some private operators, who run buses from a Hyderabad. Please check with APSRTC for timings.

Alternatively, one can travel to Vijayawada or Guntur from many popular destinations in luxurious coaches and then reach Tenali on road.

By Ship

Although not the most popular route to get into Vizag, there is a ship that gets into Vizag from Andaman and Nicobar islands. Tenali is connected by road and rail from Vizag.

By walk : Tenali is a relatively small town and most of the places can be reached by walk.

Rickshaw : The exclusive mode of transportation in city even fifteen years back,is now virtually out of the road. Some rickshaws can be spotted randomly, and it gives you a good and cheap ride to most locations within the city.

Autorickshaw : You can easily get around the city by an autorikschaw, but be to careful bargain the fare with the driver, or else you might end up paying a lot more
